Training
University of Southampton 1987. Moved toYorkshire as research fellow in Minimally Invasive Therapy, and subsequently Lecturer in Surgery, at Leeds General Infirmary. My advanced surgical training included a year at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and a sabbatical at the National Cancer Centre Hospital, Tokyo.

Other Roles
I am on the permanent teaching faculty of LIMIT (Leeds Institute for Minimally Invasive Therapy). I am chairman of the Yorkshire cancer network Upper GI SSG. I am a council member of the British Obesity Surgery Society.

AUGIS Role
I believe that patient safety and quality of life are key goals amidst the changing face of upper GI surgery. Obesity surgery and minimally invasive cancer surgery are growth areas in particular, and I hope to support the responsible development of these and other innovations through AUGIS.
Interests.

I specialise in laparoscopic and oesophago-gastric surgery, including gastric and oesophageal cancer, functional oesophago-gastric disease and obesity surgery.
