Abstract submission for the DDF in Liverpool 2012

AUGIS will be joining colleagues from BASL, BAPEN and BSG for the first UK Digestive Disorders Federation Conference in Liverpool in 2012 (17-20 June). A number of other GI associations will also be joining us and this conference will replace the annual scientific meetings of the four sponsoring societies.

We anticipate that this will be an enormous success attracting in excess of 4,000 delegates from across Europe and beyond. As this conference replaces the 2012 AUGIS Scientific meeting, the AUGIS Scientific and Programme Committee has agreed with the DDF Programme Committee that all abstracts will be managed centrally. There will be AUGIS abstract markers on every topic subcommittee relevant to our field. However, the eight best AUGIS trainee papers will still compete for our BJS Prize (this year with a bit of a twist for the winner!) and there will be an identifiable AUGIS programme running through the conference with dedicated AUGIS plenary sessions and sessions for each of our sections – BOMSS, GBIHPBA and OG. In addition, there will be an integrated nursing programme running throughout the body of the conference.

Please note that the deadline for abstract submission is January 20, 2012.

Review of higher surgical trainees

AUGIS and BOMSS – with endorsement from the surgical Specialist Advisory Committee (SAC), the Joint Committee on Surgical Training (JCST) and the Royal College of Surgeons of England (RCSEng) is undertaking a review of higher surgical trainees who have declared a sub-speciality interest in upper gastrointestinal surgery through the surgical curriculum and placement evaluation.

The aim of this review is to obtain a clear picture of the number of trainees in the UK and Ireland with a sub-speciality interest in upper gastrointestinal surgery.

This data will be used to inform the ongoing workforce planning debate and will be presented at Belfast in September. All data will be confidential and individual responses will be anonymous.
