Oxford & Wessex

Jihène El Kafsi

I trained in Oxford, qualified from Cambridge and UCL. I did fellowships in Bariatrics in UCLH and NZ. I am a Regional Surgical Advisor and Young fellow for the RCSEd, a Council member for BBUGSS working on education and promoting the NHSR through RCSEd. I have been a consultant for 4 years, during which I set up our GI Physiology lab and SEU, and streamlined the bariatric referral process for the ICS.

Summer Update

I am collaborating with Giles Bond-Smith to put together an UGI and Emergency Surgery Study day for Oxford and Wessex region, date and venue to be confirmed soon. It is likely to take place in Oxford this year, with a view to rotate to Wessex next year. I have had expressions of interest from speakers, and we have some sponsorship.

The hiatal surgery course at Karl Storz, sponsored in part by Ethicon, will take place on 17th December this year and will feature the LINX procedure this year. We are aiming to add an HPB surgery course on 18th December, details of this TBC.

As for the Safe cholecystectomy leads endeavour, we have leads nominated for most hospitals in the region, with a few pending a response.
