2026 National and International Travelling Fellowships for AHP's and Resident Doctors

AUGIS aims to inspire and promote excellence in supporting clinical practice, education and research for its members. We are delighted to offer a range of opportunities for AHP's and Resident Doctor members of AUGIS.

AUGIS will award up to 4x national and international travel fellowships. You may wish to propose a visit to observe best practice in a Centre of Excellence in the UK or abroad, or to present at/attend a national or international conference or symposium related to an area of clinical practice or research. 

Clinical unit visits provide an opportunity for AHP's and Resident Doctors to attend a Centre of Excellence to observe best practice and/or gain knowledge, which can be applied to their own practice.

AUGIS has announced the following opportunities for 2026:

  • 2x International travel fellowships up to the value of £3.000.
  • 2x National travel fellowships up to the value of £3,000.
  • The fellowships are not granted for basic training or study days.
  • Applications to observe and study in other units are favoured. Awards are intended to help with short visits and are not intended to fund long-term placements.
  • The fellowship will support travel and accommodation costs.

Aims of the Fellowships:

  • To offer a valuable opportunity to gain an insight into an aspect of clinical care and/or research at a leading Centre of Excellence.
  • To support personal, professional and career development and to enhance knowledge and skills through observing best practice for the benefit of one’s own practice and to enhance the service development within the Trust.
  • To support professional networking and collaboration with other hospitals or institutions.

Eligibility criteria for the awards:

  • EITHER be a qualified Nurse or AHP in UK and Ireland > 2 years UGI clinical experience and be currently engaged in relevant clinical practice.
  • OR
  • Resident Doctor or newly appointed Consultant <1 year in post.
  • AND 
  • 1. Be a member of AUGIS for a minimum of 12 months.
  • 2. Have a formal interest in oesophagogastric, hepatobiliary, pancreatic surgery, oncology, or benign disease (as evidenced by practice, education and/or research).

Conditions of the award:

  • Fellowships should start within one year from the date of notification of the award.
  • AUGIS must be notified if a fellowship is unable to go ahead.
  • Provide a written summary report and/or a video clip on completion of the fellowship, which may be included on the AUGIS website and in the annual newsletter, giving an overview of your experience and what has been learnt from the fellowship.
  • You may be asked to make a short 5 minute presentation at the next AUGIS Annual Scientific Meeting and you will be encouraged to present to your local team.
  • Any resulting publications should acknowledge the support of AUGIS.
  • Fellowships will only be awarded once to any applicant.

Application:

Submission of a completed application form in English outlining:

  1. Provision of a detailed plan outlining the purpose of the proposed visit (identify institution and potential mentor(s) and any agreement), including a potential timeline for the duration of the visit.
  2. Your motivation.
  3. Provide details of the skills and experience that will be acquired, which are not available within your own unit.
  4. Provide a breakdown of estimated proposed costs.
  5. Supporting letter of recommendation from your Line Manager.
  6. Summary of relevant clinical experience.

  • Incomplete applications will not be considered.
  • Late applications will not be accepted for any reason.

Selection process:

  • Applications will be reviewed and the final selection will be approved by the AUGIS Education Director.
  • All aspects of the application will be reviewed. A focus on the quality of the application, including motivation, and proposed benefits for the candidate and their team.
  • Successful applicants will be notified within 4 weeks of the closing date and will be reimbursed to the value stated above, once the proposed trip has taken place, an expense form with receipts attached and a report of the fellowship has been received.

Deadline for receipt of applications: Midday 30th January 2026.

The successful applicants will be informed on 02nd March 2026.
