Trent

Neil Bhardwaj

I have been a consultant HPB surgeon for 7 years and have been actively involved in teaching and education of trainees and medical students. I am the undergraduate lead for surgery at the University of Leicester Medical School. I have collaborated extensively with other HPB units in the region and nationally and have regularly been involved with work presented at AUGIS and GBIHPBA. My purpose as Trent representative is to enhance trainee experience, develop the AUGIS website, particularly with training videos and increase membership amongst Trent UGI and HPB surgeons in order to strengthen Trent representation nationally.

Summer Update

The Trent AUGIS meeting was a great success. It involved a full day of excellent talks aimed at consultants, trainees, CNSs and allied services.

We heard an update on benign, bariatric, cancer Upper GI and HPB specialities delivered by experts in their fields. We had a wide variety of talks ranging from physician associates, CNSs and trainee case presentations at the end with an MDT style discussion panel. It was a free event and sponsored by Viatris. The vast majority of attendees are already members but we opened to non AUGIS members and we have directly contacted those attendees who are not members with a link to join.

The Trent CNS nurse representative (Kate Anderson) is a current HPB CNS in Leicester and the trainee rep (Joseph Attard) is also a HPB/Upper GI trainee in Leicester and thus gives us a unique opportunity to coordinate on future meetings- a joint CNS/trainee education day is being planned.

Finally with the involvement of the medical illustrations department we plan to make some training videos which we can then hopefully share on the AUGIS education section of the website.
