ASM 2025 - Pre Conference Courses

AUGIS is excited to introduce supplemental pre-conference courses at the 2025 Annual Scientific Meeting. A brief description of each course is outlined below. All course places must be booked prior to attendance; spaces are limited and will be confirmed on a first come-first served basis. Annual Scientific Meeting Registration is required to attend the pre-conference courses.

EndoFlip Masterclass 0830hrs – 1200hrs

This course will provide surgeons with a comprehensive introduction to this advanced diagnostic tool used in Upper GI surgery. Participants will learn about the technology’s principles, how EndoFlip measures the distensibility and function of the esophagus and sphincters, and its clinical applications in conditions like achalasia and GERD. There will also be seminars on how to interpret the data, prepare a business case and hands-on demonstrations and case discussions to enhance understanding of the technology and assist surgeons in integrating EndoFlip into their diagnostic and therapeutic practice.
The course is intended for consultants and senior trainees who have an established practice or interest in anti-reflux and oesophageal dysmotility disease and want to introduce EndoFlip into their clinical management algorithms

Laparoscopic CBDE Course 0830hrs – 1200hrs

This course will provide surgeons with an in-depth introduction to laparoscopic common bile duct exploration and describe several modalities of imaging and techniques to explore the CBD. The course includes brief seminars to enhance theoretical understanding and several hands-on stations to learn several important techniques including IOC, lap Ultrasound, placement of biliary stents, safe use of choledochoscopy and various methods for stone extraction.
The course is intended for consultants and senior trainees who have an established elective or emergency gallbladder practice that now want to introduce common bile duct exploration into their surgical portfolio.

Laparoscopic Hernia Course 0830hrs – 1200hrs

This hands-on course will provide surgeons with the theoretical and anatomical knowledge that underpins laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair and several opportunities for practising TAPP and TEPP techniques in wet and dry models, and learning tips and tricks for difficult cases. Seminar sessions will include topics such as case selection, dealing with complications and starting a robotic practice. The course is intended for consultants and trainees who wish to develop experience of laparoscopic inguinal hernia and introduce the techniques into their surgical practice.

Roux Training Morning

The Roux Group is excited to announce three parallel training pre-conference courses which will take place on Wednesday 8th October 0830hrs-1200hrs.

Spaces are extremely limited, and early booking is strongly recommended – it is unlikely that course organisers will be able to accept delegates on the day without prior registration. Delegates can only sign up to one training course. Annual Scientific Meeting registration is required to attend the pre-conference courses.

Passing the MRCS

This course is aimed at all junior surgical residents and medical students who are due to sit the MRCS examination in the next few years. The experienced and dedicated faculty will provide sessions and small-group teaching on common themes in the MRCS, revision techniques, common pitfalls and an overview of anatomical knowledge required for the exam, before moving on to several opportunities for practice viva and MCQ questions.

HPB Anastomotic Skills Workshop

This course is aimed at ST5+/SAS surgical residents who have an interest in developing a career in HPB surgery. The course includes seminars and practical demonstrations on the principles of sound HPB anastomoses and several opportunities to perform HJ and PJ anastomoses on dry and wet models.

The course includes seminars and practical demonstrations on the principles of high-quality hiatal surgery to optimise safety and outcomes followed by several opportunities to perform hiatal dissection and creation of fundoplication wraps in wet models.
