1 - Outstanding AHP Contribution to Upper GI and HPB Surgery Award 

This award is designed to recognise outstanding contributions to any field within upper GI/ HPB surgery. This could be through exceptional patient care, leadership, innovation, research, education and training or quality improvement projects. Applications can be self-nominations, or nominations can be made on behalf of an AUGIS member.
The successful applicant/s will receive free registration at the AUGIS conference a £ (TBC) award.  The award ceremony will take place at the AUGIS annual conference. The winner is required to attend to receive their prize; registration that day will be free of charge. If the winner wishes to attend additional days, a discounted registration will apply.
 

Eligibility

The applicant/nominee must be an active AUGIS member to be eligible.

2 - The Giles Toogood Prize for Improving Upper GI & HPB Surgical Training

The award is open to any AUGIS member who is surgical training in the UK. This includes members of the Roux Committee. Applications are welcomed from doctors in LAT posts, as well as those in numbered posts. Applicants must be in a recognised training scheme.
The award is to support a project looking at an aspect of training in Upper GI & HPB surgery. The proposal must look at an aspect of training in Upper GI & HPB surgery but there are no specific restrictions on the nature of the work. Appropriate submissions would include research projects, high-quality audits, qualitative studies, or local training initiatives. This can be a project that has already been completed, is currently being undertaken, or has not yet started. Whilst all applications are encouraged, projects which are still at the proposal stage will be ranked lower than those that are already underway/completed.
The winner must be available to attend the AUGIS Annual Scientific Meeting in order to accept their award
 

The successful applicants must submit a short report (300-500 words) to the AUGIS executive within 12 months of the award. The report should include a summary of the work undertaken, an outline of the results, and how the funding has helped.

3 - The Royston- Griffin Research Award

The annual Royston-Griffin AUGIS Research Award encourages research by surgeons working in the UK and the Republic of Ireland. The award consists of:
  • An opportunity to deliver a lecture at AUGIS Annual Scientific Meeting
  • An engraved medal and certificate
  • Full registration for the whole meeting
Entrants need to be a member of the Society and must fulfil certain age criteria*. Previous applicants are welcome to apply.
 
You must be under 40 years of age on the day of the lecture or have held a consultant post for less than 5 years. If you have been in part time or intermittent employment, we will adjust the 5-year figure to a whole time equivalent. This can include time out of practice for maternity, paternity, or carer’s leave, up to a maximum of 10 years. If you are in any doubt, tell us about the circumstances and we will advise accordingly.

4 - AUGIS Honorary Membership

Nominations are invited for Honorary Membership of AUGIS   Honorary Members will have made a distinguished contribution to Upper GI & HPB surgery in the UK or internationally.  They shall pay no annual subscription. 
 

Application

Nominations for Honorary Membership of AUGIS  should set out clearly the work the nominee has done in respect of making a distinguished contribution to Upper GI & HPB surgery.  Key achievements should be clearly highlighted.  (600 words)
 
The Committee will determine whether to award Honorary Membership in any one year – and it is anticipated there will be no more than two awards made annually.
