2026 AUGIS Abstract Rules of Submission

 

Key Conference Dates:

Abstract submission opens: Thursday 7th May 2026

  • Abstract submission deadline: 23:59 BST Monday 22nd June
  • Acceptance notifications issued: Week beginning 3rd August
  • Conference dates: 23rd – 25th September
 
   

All submitted abstracts undergo a thorough and anonymous peer-review process, evaluated by at least three independent reviewers. Abstracts receiving the highest scores are selected for presentation, either as oral or poster sessions. Accepted abstracts presented at the AUGIS Conference will be published in the British Journal of Surgery.

  • Abstracts must be no more than 250 words in length
  • All accepted and presented abstracts will be published online in the BJS.
  • The submitting author should be the author presenting at the conference. If not, please advise AUGIS of any change of presenting author.
  • Abstracts should be formatted with an Aim, Method, Results and Conclusions (except case reports).Abstracts can be submitted under the following categories

  • Allied Healthcare Professionals (AHP) Oesophago-gastric (OG)
  • Cancer Benign Upper GI Surgery (BBUGSS)
  • Hepato-pancreatico-biliary (HPB) disease Bariatric Surgery
  • Emergency Upper GI Surgery

Rules of Submission

Please ensure that all named authors have reviewed and approved the abstract prior to submission. Each author is responsible for confirming that the submitted data is accurate, not extrapolated, and fairly represents the content to be presented at the AUGIS conference.  Any commercial support or involvement from industry must be clearly disclosed.

  1. The abstract should be no longer than 250 words (not including title, or headings, aim, method, results and conclusions). It is your responsibility to ensure that you keep to the word limit.
  2. Abstracts are to be submitted as text, tables are allowed.
  3. Please use a spell checker on your abstract before submitting it.
  4. All areas of the form must be completed; failure to do so will result in the form being rejected.
  5. It is your responsibility to ensure that the information you provide is correct and to check the content of your abstract and especially contact information. We cannot be held responsible for your abstract not being graded as the content was missing or for failure to notify successful authors of abstract acceptance if you did not fill the form in correctly.  
  6. Once completed and submitted electronically you cannot submit the same abstract again – make sure the first one is correct. You can however edit the submission up to the closing time of submission.
  7. Please ensure your e-mail address is correct as you will be notified by e-mail if your abstract has been accepted.
  8. Evidence of falsification of results, plagiarism and/or misrepresentation will be treated as professional misconduct and will be reported to your Deanery and/or GMC for further investigation.

Please also note:

  • The person registering and submitting your abstract online will receive all future correspondence regarding that abstract. It is therefore not advisable to submit abstracts on behalf of colleagues. The author that intends to present the abstract should complete the online submission.
  • By submitting an abstract to AUGIS you confirm the title, authorship, affiliation, and abstract wording are correct and acceptable for publication. Changes cannot be made to abstract content prior to publication in the British Journal of Surgery
  • Please note that no further changes or edits can be made after abstract submission has closed. The submitting authors confirm that the abstract can be published as is.
